Lenten Prayer

Each week during Lent, the forty days leading up to Easter, we’ve been praying a different prayer and working on memorizing a verse of Psalm 100 as a community.

The prayer and verse for this week are posted below.

Prayer

God, your Scriptures reveal how you have served me.  Why am I so unappreciative?  I have found excuses and nurtured habits that keep me from serving others or helping the church.   But I don’t want to do good works just because I feel guilty.  I need to experience your gracious forgiveness washing over the needs of my soul, settling all agitation, making me want only you.  Make this happen, so that good works flow out genuinely from the gratitude only you can cause.  I look to your grace, and your Holy Spirit’s power to apply it to my heart’s deepest desires.   Amen.
