Youth Urban Plunge Mission Trip 2012 1

The students helped to restore a community garden.

They also decorated my car! Thanks guys!

Each year the Urban Plunge Mission Trip is an awesome time of serving other, forming community, and spiritual growth for high school and junior high students. This year was the second annual trip to the city of Sacramento. The students stayed at Friends Community Church for three days and two nights.  The group of high school and junior high students was diverse. We had students from Granite Springs Church, Bridge of Life Church, Friends Community Church, and The Greenhouse Community Enrichment center. Our youth leaders here at Granite Springs have been partnering with these other churches for a couple years now and the relationship has started to bare fruit in the lives of our students.

This month the students worked side by side with one another as they served the Sacramento community. They were able to serve at two different food closets and community centers, they worked hard restoring a community Garden in Gardenland Northgate, and they fed over one-hundred homeless folks under a bridge on the American River. The students also engaged in worship and small groups twice a day as they learned about the spiritual disciplines of confession, fasting, simplicity, and celebration. They also formed close bonds with our eight leaders and formed new friendships with one another.

The students prayed!

We are so grateful for the opportunity to serve in the Sacramento area and are excited to do our third Urban Plunge Mission Trip next summer. We invite all of our students to join in next year as we experience God’s grace at work in the city.
